The Angkor Art Explo is a three part art festival aiming to bring local Cambodian art to its roots, take it to the masses through a journey of exhibitions, and expose it to the world by creating a platform of dialogue between international and local artists.

THE ROOTS – The first part of the exhibition begins in Battambang, the kingdom’s second largest city and its unofficial art capital. With the explosion of notable art galleries and collectives opening up all over the city, an art renaissance is on its way. Angkor Art Explo brings together the bustling art community with a series of exhibitions and get-togethers to promote the growth of local contemporary art.

THE JOURNEY – The festival’s heart is the “art journey project” wherein artists will be asked to turn bicycles into “art on wheels” and take part in a 175-kilometer traveling exhibition, riding the bicycles through the countryside, creating impromptu exhibitions in local markets, pagodas, schools and villages. The journey from Battambang to Siem Reap aims to bring art to the masses, instead of the other way around. This grueling 4 day exploration will reach its final destination in Siem Reap, in the shadows of the ancient Angkor Wat temples.

THE WORLD – With the hope of fostering the growth of Cambodian art, the festival reaches its zenith in Angkor – where exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative projects will unfold, featuring local artists and invited artists from the region and all over the globe. Creating an international stage in Angkor creates a cultural bridge between Cambodia and the rest of the world to promote the exchange of ideas and artistic spirit. The Siem Reap leg will commence with a welcome party and an inaugural public exhibition featuring the art bikes.
